Opening everywhere:

  • Beowulf (2007) – yet another Robert Zemeckis’s motion capture fantasy tale about warrior Beowulf who must defeat the demon Grendel… and his mother. Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Angelina Jolie at al gave the characters their voices and some likeness.
  • Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium (2007) – as holiday season approaches, Natalie Portman is the manager and Dustin Hoffman stars as the 243-year-old owner of the strangest, most fantastic, most wonderfully magical toy store in the world.
  • Love In Time Of Cholera (2007) – based on novel by Gabriel García Márquez, it’s a love story set in Colombia covering some 5 decades in the end of 19th and beginning of 20th century.

Opening in select theatres:

  • Margot at the Wedding (2007) – Margot (Nicole Kidman) and her son crash at her sister wedding, messing up the relationship, yet when everything goes wrong the family is the only thing to hold on to.
  • Redacted (2007) – based on real incident from 2006 when several US troops raped a 14-year old Iraqi girl and killed her and her family, this movie is a montage of reenactments, videos from Internet and excerpts from blogs showing what mainstream media sources would never show and often even mention. Ironically, the ending was redacted by the producers. Most controversion movie of the year.
  • Southland Tales (2006) – On July 4, 2008 The Rock is a boxer and action star with amnesia amidst conspiracy as the end of the world is coming. A sci-fi comedy/drama.
