This is a remake of award-winning European romantic comedy Mostly Martha (a.k.a. Bella Martha). Starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, Aaron Eckhart and Abigail Breslin.
The plot: Kate (Catherine Zeta-Jones) is a head-strong chef who is fully in control of her life and her kitchen until her sister dies and she has to become guardian of her niece Zoe (Abigail Breslin). If that wasn’t hard enough, her life turns completely upside down when new sous chef (Aaron Eckhart) works his way into her heart.
The summary: bad boring movie. This remake of German/Italian movie Mostly Martha is sweeter then tiramisu and contains as much air as sufle.
The good: Aaron Eckhart is very good - he’s dominating every scene. Catheron Zeta-Jones is beautiful as always - she just always stays young and pretty.
The bad: shallow acting + bad script + bad music = bad movie. Characters’ actions are unsubstantiated and not realistic. It’s like a bad musical starring Hollywood sweethearts. I bet Breslin hated this role. Funniest character in the movie was truffle dealer (Yevgeniy Dekhtyar).
Memorable quotes:
You were right: sex is so much better with Pavarotti.
Nick: I’m am going to kiss your aunt
Zoe: This is so embarassing
Therapist: Kids like fishsticks
Kate: Fishsticks?
Therapist: Yes, you know… frozen fishsticks in the box…
Kate: I can’t believe I am paying for this advise
Similar movies: Raising Helen (an ok movie), Tortilla Soup (a great movie)
The cast: Kate - Catherine Zeta-Jones | Nick - Aaron Eckhart | Zoe - Abigail Breslin | Paula - Patricia Clarkson | Leah - Jenny Wade | John - Eric Silver
The crew: Director - Scott Hicks | Screenplay - Carol Fuchs | Producers - Sergio Aguero, Bruce Berman, Susan Cartsonis, Kerry Heysen | Original Music - Philip Grass
