Anukoni Prayanam with Natakireeti Dr. Rajendra Prasad in the lead role, was released today. The film stars veteran actor Narasimharaju in a vital role and is directed by Venkatesh Pediredla. Let’s see how the movie is.

Story:

The film begins with two friends, played by Rajendra Prasad and Narasimharaju, who work as day laborers at a construction site in Bhubaneswar. Rajendra Prasad does not believe in relationships and is a carefree guy who takes care of his job. Due to COVID-19 their work stops, so they start traveling to their natives. Narasimharaju dies during the journey, which leaves Rajendra Prasad in shock. Rajendra Prasad decides to take his friend’s corpse to his homeland, and the rest of the film is about the obstacles he faces in this process and the things that make him realize the value of human relationships.

Good points :

The theme of the film is good, and it deals with human emotions. The film stresses the importance of the relationships one should have in life. The story is well settled in the first hour, and the emotions work well in this part. The film begins by comparing the ups and downs of human life to a game of snake and ladder which sounds interesting.

Rajendra Prasad justifies his tag Natakireeti, and with Anukoni Prayanam he proves once again that he is a pearl of Telugu cinema acting. It’s a tailor-made role for the actor, who breathes life into him. The lead actor is at his best in emotional scenes, and he deserves a special mention for picking up a subject like this. After a while, he gets a role with a very good scope to play.

Narasimharaju as the companion of Rajendra Prasad, gets a good role, and he plays well too. Others like Tulasi and Ravi Babu are doing well in their limited roles. The fun part in a few places in the movie is decent and lightheartedly presented. Some dialogues written by Paruchuri Brothers have inner depth.

Negative points :

The slow-paced narrative is one aspect that constantly pushes the film down. Although there are good moments, they seem rare and there is a lot of delay in the film. The editing team should have cut the film more to improve its feel. After a while, the scenes get repetitive, and that’s where the problems start.

The film also has a few forced elements, like the sequence of a fight and the way it is presented seems awkward. Prema’s tracks look strange and artificial, and the team should have worked more on this aspect. So far, the film seems realistic, but these few sequences play spoilsport.

The climax is not so punchy. After such a promising start, a satisfying ending is expected, but that’s not happening here. Few characters could have been engraved even better. The film is different from the usual commercial artists and it may not appeal to all audiences.

Technical aspects:

Two songs by Siva Dinavahi are significant and add to the film’s theme. Mallikarjun Naragani’s cinematography is fair and he captured the locations in a nice way. The production values are good and the directors have spent what was necessary for this movie.

The editing team, as mentioned, should have removed a few offset scenes. Coming to director Venkatesh Pediredla, he managed to do a decent job with his storytelling. The basic plot written by producer Jagan Mohan is quite interesting and there is room for more drama. But the director did not completely succeed in making the film overwhelming. He did, however, manage to extract the best from Rajendra Prasad.

Verdict:

Overall, Anukoni Prayanam has a good concept, strong performance from Rajendra Prasad and some good moments. On the other hand, the long runtime, slow-paced narrative, and forced, contrived sequences make this movie a strictly decent watch this weekend.
